News: Technica Measurement to the rescue

Our support team were contacted by one of our customers earlier this week with a strange metering problem. The customer, an operator of a gas fired power station in the North-East of England, were seeing an intermittent issue with their main import meter, connecting them to the National Gas Transmission System. When the site was online and flowing gas, sometimes it would meter, sometimes it wouldn’t.

Despite the client not having an out-of-hours support contract but recognising the importance our client plays for UK energy security, our engineers were able to log in remotely and conduct some checks late into the evening.

Having identified the potential issue, Technica Measurement were able to mobilise one of our Metering Systems Engineers, Mateusz Dutka to site the next day and within an hour of arriving at site, he had diagnosed and repaired the issue. Remaining on site he monitored the system and ensured it was operating correctly and provided some advice to the client regarding spare parts in the event the issue reoccurs in the future.

As a follow up to this issue, Technica Measurement has also provided some specialist consultancy work for the client, by completing mismeasurement calculations covering the periods when the metering system was not measuring correctly. This will allow the power station to meet their obligations with all stakeholders including the UK Emissions Trading Scheme.

Technica Measurement is becoming a trusted partner for the provision of flow measurement services to the UK and International energy sector. Their service offering includes operations and maintenance including Complete Measurement Maintenance Services (CMMS), verification including audits, independent witnessing / conducting of equipment calibrations and asset commissioning and consultancy including the provision of owners’ engineer services or technical support to flow measurement projects.
